Hebrews 11:20

Hebrews 11:20  “By faith Isaac invoked future blessings on Jacob and Esau.”

How rich Your Word is, Lord

How deeply it delves into the human heart

Exposing sin and foolishness, revealing our inmost thoughts before You

You know how the story of Jacob and Esau unfolded

Why it is that we say “Jacob and Esau,” and not “Esau and Jacob”

How they were born with Jacob grasping the heel, deceiving and supplanting from his very birth

How Esau despised his birthright, treating it as a joke or a game before You

How Jacob saw the day of his death approach and called his son before him to bless him

How Rebekah put Jacob forward for the blessing, saying, “Let any curse be on me”

How Jacob put on a false identity and took false offerings, and deceived Isaac once again

How Isaac laid his hand on the head of his son – of the heir of the Covenant

And said, “May God give you of the dew of Heaven

Let peoples serve you, and nations bow down to you

Be lord over your brothers

Cursed be those who curse you, and blessed be those who bless you”

And through trial and heartbreak Your Spirit would teach Jacob to tell the truth

To point with his life and faith to One who would be the rightful heir of all things

Who would offer His birthright to all men freely as the great gift of grace

Who would say, “I am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me”

As it is written, Jacob have You loved, that God’s purpose in election might stand

Who will not fear and wonder? For from You and through You and to You are all things. Amen
