On

Sometimes
There is a terrible weariness
That comes over my heart:
To slow, to drop my sword, to know again the peace of the still place
But He says: “Not here, not now. The battle rages on. Keep the faith”

Sometimes
There is a great sadness
That sweeps over my soul:
To crumple beneath it, to drink in the cold rain, to let it cover my head
But He says: “I drank of the cup of wrath for you. Joy cometh in the morning. Press on”

Sometimes
There are distant memories
I would give anything to change:
To choose anew, to take another path, to avoid the slaughter
But He says: “Life, life, eternal life awaits. Remember Lot’s wife. Cast all your cares on Me”

Sometimes
The darkness invades my mind
And I hear fell voices on the air:
To deny my Lord, to commit sin, to give in to wreck and ruin
But He says: “Resist the devil and he will flee. Put your armor on. Quit ye like men”

Sometimes
A glimpse of Heaven comes
Of myriad angels in festal assembly:
To see the cloud of witnesses, to hear the joyful shout, to crest that wave of immortality
And He says: “It is nearer now than when you first believed. Behold, I come. Onward!”

My name is Jeremy Vogan. I live in Staunton, VA with my wife and four kids. I love to write, and seek to honestly explore the intellectual and emotional implications of following Jesus as a deeply broken person in a twisted, cruel world that is full of veiled beauty and meaning. Writing is part of how I faithfully look for Jesus Christ to someday make all things new. I'd enjoy hearing your feedback! JV
