Lamentations 1:2 “She weeps bitterly in the night, with tears on her cheeks; among all her lovers she has none to comfort her; all her friends have dealt treacherously with her; they have become her enemies.”
We once were close, Lord
Our hearts were knit together
We faced the world side by side; we tasted the joys and sorrows of life
The beauty of friendship became our highest good; the joy of affinity, our highest truth
But in between every human relationship, there must be actual spiritual truth. There must be a true Mediator
And we exchanged that truth for a lie
The lie that we could worship and serve the creature rather than the Creator
Who is blessed forever! Amen
And the cost of that lie is staggering
The righteous Law has exacted losses as we have deviated from Your will
You have toppled the idols of faithless friendship and false intimacy in our hearts
And we are left weeping bitterly in the night
Yet we are not left alone. For there is a Friend who sticks closer than a brother
And He has prepared a table for me in the midst of my enemies
He anoints my head with oil; my cup overflows
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life
And I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Amen
