Hebrews 11:14

Hebrews 11:14

Hebrews 11:14  “For people who speak thus make it clear that they are seeking a homeland.”

Something is wrong, Lord

We have known it since the beginning

Since we first knew what sin was

Since the desire to have things our way started growing in our hearts

Since the temptation to lie first pushed the truth aside

Since we discovered that you can try to hide after you have done wrong

Since we sought to receive honor from one another

Since desire was conceived and gave birth to sin

And since the desolation of sin settled in and all hope fled away

Your Spirit showed us Your perfect Law, and we turned around

And we became born again, of water and the Spirit

We sought the honor that comes from You only

We came into the light of grace and confessed our enduring need of You

We told the truth and discovered how costly it truly is

More than anything, we wanted Your Kingdom to come, Your will done

And we found out what holiness is

What You have known since the beginning

For You, Lord, are the only right there is

And when we began to understand that, our hearts began to know why Your Spirit yearns so jealously over us

Because, after a lifetime of wandering, You are slowly but surely calling us home.

Amen

My name is Jeremy Vogan. I live in Staunton, VA with my wife and four kids. I love to write, and seek to honestly explore the intellectual and emotional implications of following Jesus as a deeply broken person in a twisted, cruel world that is full of veiled beauty and meaning. Writing is part of how I faithfully look for Jesus Christ to someday make all things new. I'd enjoy hearing your feedback! JV
