Hebrews 1:1

Hebrews 1:1

Hebrews 1:1  “Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God
spoke to our fathers by the prophets”

Lord, You know how desperately I need to hear from You. This world is no friend to grace

I catch a glimpse of Your glory at dawn, but by nightfall my vision has faded

I plant Your words deep in my heart, but somehow they get shaken loose every time

I try to live Your truth, but my heart falls far short of Your holiness

Is anyone worthy? Is anyone whole? My heart sinks within me, for surely there is none

But Your Word continues, through my despair, like a pure note through the sounding chaos

You are not a God who remains distant, condemning, not clearing the guilty

Visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children and the children’s children, to the third and the fourth generation

You cared for people enough to become one, taking on flesh, knowing our weakness

You cared for this world enough to speak it into inheritance with Your divine fiat, even as You once spoke it into existence, separating light from darkness forever

You cared for Your glory enough to ascend on high, leading captives in Your train, showing Yourself a God of compassion and mercy

And You speak to us by Your Gospel of grace, as long as it is called Today, teaching us to humbly repent, helping us to hold our original confidence firm to the end

Canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This You set aside, nailing it to the cross

For You did not send Your Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through Him Is there anything to be compared with such a salvation? Seat my faith firmly in Your promises today, and help me speak Your name with reverence to others, and may I never doubt again. Amen

My name is Jeremy Vogan. I live in Staunton, VA with my wife and four kids. I love to write, and seek to honestly explore the intellectual and emotional implications of following Jesus as a deeply broken person in a twisted, cruel world that is full of veiled beauty and meaning. Writing is part of how I faithfully look for Jesus Christ to someday make all things new. I'd enjoy hearing your feedback! JV
